Assisted Living Facilities

Find Assisted Living Facilities in

Assisted living is a type of residence for seniors who wish to retain an independent lifestyle but may need help in managing certain daily living activities such as personal hygiene, cooking, doing laundry or taking medications.  Compared to traditional nursing homes, assisted living is for seniors needing assistance with specific services or a basic level of supervised care but are otherwise free of significant mobility or health care issues. Nursing homes are typically for  people with serious, chronic conditions that require the availablity of 24-hour care of skilled nursing personnel.

Seniors in assisted living can enjoy a comfortable, independent lifestyle while their family members have peace of mind knowing that caring, well-trained staff is available should their family member need assistance.

What Services and Amenities are Provided?

Many assisted living facilities resemble typical apartment communities. Most residents live in single units where a staff member comes each day to help with activities such as bathing and dressing. Staff members are available 24-hours a day to respond to emergencies and assist with residents’ needs.

The atmosphere at an assisted living residence is generally relaxed in terms of activities. Daily meals are served in pleasant communal dining room settings but residents can choose where to eat their meals. Some living quarters include kitchenettes if residents prefer to prepare their own meals. Fitness classes and recreational activities such as movie screenings or group activities are offered on a regular basis. Most communities provide transportation for their senior residents to medical appointments, scheduled outings and shopping.

How Much Will it Cost?

The cost varies depending on size, location, quality and number of services provided. Depending on the type of policy, Assisted Living is covered by most long-term care insurance or is private pay. Medicare currently does not cover the costs of this type of long-term care and few states are authorized to utilize Medicaid waivers to help families pay for care.

Assisted living is a great solution for seniors who do not require the full services of a skilled nursing home but need the assurance that personal care and support services are available if needed.  It also allows seniors freedom from the responsibilities of maintaining a private home.
